Kelly Norine (Mayhew) McCloskey

Kelly McCloskey, age 55, of Millvale PA, formerly of Butler PA, passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2024, following a courageous nine-month battle with cancer. She was born on December 1, 1969, the daughter of the late Carol Crawford, Ruby Mayhew and L. Damon Mayhew.

Kelly graduated from Slippery Rock Area High School, Class of 1987. Kelly was a passionate pilgrim on the path of loving life. She worked in a variety of jobs during her life that matched her love for art, pets and food. She worked at Sears Portrait Studio, an art gallery, a framing studio, The Clothes Pallette, All you Can Handle, PetSmart and, Shop n’ Save. Kelly was an avid animal lover and certified dog groomer and trainer. For the past 16 years Kelly worked as a waitress at Aladdin’s Eatery on McKnight Road where she loved serving delicious food; greeting and uplifting her customers with her contagious smile; and working with people she loved. She also had her own business, Pillow Works, creating hand-painted portraits on pillows and tote bags, wall murals and paintings.
On September, 14 1992, Kelly married her sweetheart and soul mate, Gregg McCloskey. They happily celebrated 32 years of marriage last month. Kelly was a beautiful, dynamic ray of sunshine who loved making people happy. She was an extremely talented artist. Her specialty was painting animals. But she always said her greatest masterpiece was her beloved son, Gregory Trent McCloskey. He was her treasured gift and source of joy.
Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, her mother, Ruby Creekmore Mayhew; her father, L. Damon Mayhew and her birth mother, Carol Norine (Mayhew) Crawford; her brother-in-law Charles “Chuck” Yetter and her beloved brindle boxer, Karmella. Surviving in addition to her husband, Gregg McCloskey, are her son, Gregory Trent McCloskey and his partner Jennifer Rowland of Austin, Texas; her step-father, David R. Crawford of Butler; her sister, Linda Yetter and her husband, Joe de la Guardia of Cummings, Georgia; her sister, Doris Mayhew Stupka and her husband, Jack of Mercer; her sister, Molly Lynn Barnhart and her husband, Brian of New Brighton; her brother, William “Bill” Mayhew and his wife, Wanda of Renfrew; her brother, Damon Edward Crawford of Butler; her sister-in-law Kimberley McCloskey; many nieces and nephews; and her Chihuahua, Winter; her cat, Patrick and her beautiful fish. As well as many other people and pets she dearly loved.
Friends and Family are invited to a service of remembrance and celebration of Kelly’s life at Heritage Presbyterian Church (2262 Rochester Rd Pittsburgh, PA 15237) on October 26, 2024, at 1 p.m. This service will also include a Celebration of Life for Kelly’s nephew, Owen Sky Stupka, who passed away on October 4, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to remember Kelly in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Animal Friends 562 Camp Horne Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15237 or the Nora Crocker- J. Calvin McCoy Scholarship fund at SRHS Alumni Association, P.O. Box 674, Slippery Rock, PA 16057 (created in 2001 in memory of Kelly’s great-grandmother and her son who was killed in World WarII.)
