L. John Toth, 77, passed away peacefully after a short illness on April 15th, 2023.

Born June 30, 1945 in Cheswick, PA, he was the son of Louis and Thelma (Moore) Toth.

He graduated from Fox Chapel High School and went on to pursue a degree in Elementary Education at Clarion University, where he was a proud member of the Theta Xi Fraternity.  Upon receipt of his graduate degree, he taught in the South Butler County School District at Winfield Elementary School for 32 years.

After retirement he traveled the country as a writer of children’s activity books for Amtrak, logging over 200,000 rail miles.  He loved travel, reading, crossword puzzles, silly songwriting, good donuts, dogs, social justice, the beach, and quiet time with the people he loved most.

Surviving are his children: Becki Toth (Matt Rush), Jonathan Toth, and Betsy Groves (Tim); two adoring grandchildren, and nieces and nephews in Texas, Florida, Ohio, and Pittsburgh.

Preceding him were his parents; his wife, Janet Toth, his sisters Nancy (Punkin) and Gaye (Puz) and his brother Kelly (Sonny).

The family will be celebrating his life privately, no public service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Voces Solis (vocessolis.com) in his memory.

Arrangements entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, Robinson Township.

Becki, Johnathan, and Betsy, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. So many memories. Your mom and dad were such a big part of my life. They are together again and both smiling. May the good Lord hold you tight and comfort you. 🙏
