Linda L. Vance, 81, of Pittsburgh, PA passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on June 19, 2026. Born on March 13, 1945 in Steubenville, OH she is the daughter of the late Reid and Virgina Vance.

Linda is survived by her loving nieces, Stacey (Jamie) Shafer and Beth (Glen) Wantje; Sister-in-law, Joyce Vance; Sister of the heart and lifelong friend, Dee Grubor; Great nieces and nephew, Maryelle, Rex, Mallory, Grace, and Morgan.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Donald R. Vance.

A proud graduate of Big Red High School in Steubenville, Class of 1963, Linda was an active member of the marching band. As a young woman, she had the distinct honor of marching with the band in the inaugural parade for President John F. Kennedy, a memory she treasured throughout her life. Following high school, she pursued her passion for helping others and graduated from the Ohio Valley School of Nursing in 1966. Linda attended night classes at St. Francis University and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Health Sciences in 2000.

Linda dedicated her life to caring for others through her remarkable 44-year nursing career. She served in critical care and spent many years as Nurse Manager of the Coronary Care Unit, where she was admired and respected by colleagues, physicians, patients, and families alike. She also taught EMT’s from Tri-Community South to learn to identify critical EKG interpretations in the field and take appropriate action. In 2009, she was the first time recipient of the Mary Ann Scully Excellence in Nursing Award by the American Heart Association. Linda often was referred to as a legend at St. Clair Hospital and the heart and soul of cardiac care.

Outside of her professional life, Linda embraced every opportunity to enjoy life and create memories with those she loved. She was an avid golfer, a devoted Pittsburgh sports fan, and an enthusiastic traveler. Above all, Linda treasured her family and rarely missed the chance to attend her nieces’, nephews’, and great-nieces’ and great-nephew’s sporting events, activities, and milestones.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 from 1pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA, 15317. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10am on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at St. Benedict the Abbott Church, 120 Abington Drive, McMurray, PA, 15317. Everyone please meet at the church. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

I had the pleasure of knowing Linda, first as a boss and second as “extended family”. I started at St Clair Hospital in 2005, a 22 year old nurse with no experience, after a short time on med surgery floor, a position opened on Linda’s unit.She took a chance on hiring me, stuck me on night shift with some of the most amazing and experienced nurses I ever met, all because we were lead by the best of the best! Because of that chance I have been able to grow in my career. She gave me the confidence to push outside of my comfort zone. Outside of work, I knew Linda through what I like to call a “cousin-in-law” (Beth). And she was just as wonderful outside of work, as she was inside. It’s ironic that the one who knew how to fix the heart so well, left so many broken. Love and prayers to everyone. I am so sorry for your loss, and we will all miss you Linda.

A wonderful nurse, and educator. Worked with her back in the day at St. Clair. Learned so much about EKG interpretation. Always ready to help, and always a smile and gentle, but firm encouragement. Thank you for all your service Linda, you certainly earned and deserve your reward.

Oh, what to say about Linda Vance. She asked me if I wanted to work for her in CCU. I was nervous. Never had any critical care experience. Linda took me under her" Eagle Wings" and set me on fire. She was the best Mentor, Boss and Friend I ever had the privileged to work with and for. She was hands on. Always there to help in the critical issues on the unit. Linda praised her staff and always took the time to say, job well done. Very much an advocate for her nurses. I loved her like a "Big Sister". We took care of hearts, BUT LINDA VANCE HAD THE BIGEST HEART OF ALL. She will truly be missed. Heaven is getting a special "ANGLE" to honor in. Thank You for all you did for me, with much gratitude. It is very sad news to hear that Linda Vance has passed away. I worked for her and with her at St. Clair CCU for many years. Linda knew more about the heart than many physicians and had a talent for teaching and mentoring. She also had great kindness toward our patients as well as the staff. She actually is a legend there. Linda loved her family and every time we talked I could tell that being a part of their young lives gave her so much pleasure. Rest in peace, dear friend. You will be missed so much.

I am so sorry to hear of Linda's passing. We go back a very long way. I was born onJanuary 13th of the same year. We went through school together the entire 13 years. Our class in grade school was a very small number of 12 so we were all very close. I can never explain how much fun we had in those years. It is no surprise to me that Linda was so successful in her adult years. She was always a leader . She will be missed by her friends, family , and co workers. She will never be forgotten by me one of her earliest playmates. Rest in Peace Linda. I missed the adventures we would have had as adults.
