Lois S. Abraham, age 90, passed away on October 31, 2024. Born on March 1, 1934, in Pittsburgh, PA, she is the daughter of the late Louis and Louise Saalinger.

Lois is survived by four children: Dale, Todd, Karen, Robert and their families, as well as her brother, LeRoy Saalinger. She also leaves behind friends who she considered family.

She is preceded in death by longtime companion, Larence Hart and her brother, Lee Saalinger.

After graduating in 1951 from Turtle Creek High School, Lois was a secretary for several companies dating back to J&L Steel in the 1950’s to working for Christ Church in the 1990’s. She enjoyed traveling, playing Bridge, and word games such as Words with Friends and Scrabble. Her grandchildren look back with smiles on overnight “camping” in the living room tent, as well as trips to Sarris Candy for ice cream.

Christ Church was the cornerstone of Lois’ life. Well beyond Sunday worship, the church was her community of support and a way for her to give back in support of others. Lois was a social individual who loved being around others, participating in numerous church ministries including United Methodist Women, Single Adult Ministries, mentoring Mothers of pre-schoolers, choir and many others.

In later years when assisted-living and nursing home facilities were her home, Lois felt her calling was to help new residents adapt to life in new and often challenging environments. She could relate to the difficulties of senior life having managed the transition herself. New residents were sure to receive a “Lois hug” on countless occasions as a show of support — Her boundless love and motherly instincts will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life service will be held at Christ Church, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102 on November 30th at 11 AM. All arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care.

Lois was a dear friend. Our way of showing love and appreciation for one another was a hug. I was shopping at Giant Eagle one day and spotted Lois up ahead. I came up behind her and put my arms around her an gave her a big hug. Unbeknownst to me she was with her mother. Lois told me later that when I left her mother wanted to know who that strange man was and why was he hugging her daughter. We surprised each other with surprise hugs many times, but was the most memorable. She will be dearly missed!

Lois was my mentor and friend from the first moment I walked through the doors of CUMC Single Adult Ministries. We were cohorts experiencing many laughs, adventures, confidences and Lois hugs throughout the years. She and Larry were Tom and my biggest cheerleaders and dinner buddies. Her huge personality will be missed. Lois touched many lives and i was blessed to be one of them.

Louis was the most amazing woman. Todd and family, Your mom helped me last year when she was my mom's roommate and passed. One year later I found myself in the same situation with my Dad and once again Louis was there and helped me through his passing. She was such an angel. I know nothing i can say will help the hurt that you are all feeling just know she will always be in my heart and all of you are in my prayers.
