Margaret Mae Myers (Marge), 76, of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, and Squirrel Hill in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania passed away in her home surrounded by her family after a 15 year battle with Breast Cancer. She was surrounded in love by her daughter, Julie(tte) Proskin (Myers), son-in-law Matthew Proskin, three grandchildren Mason, Morgan, and Owen and two grand-dogs, Hope and Faith.
Born in York, Pennsylvania to the late Raymond Sr and Catherine (Barnhill) Myers, she was the youngest of six children. Proceeded in death by brothers William and Raymond, Jr. and survived by older brother, Michael Myers and his wife, Janice of York; and two sisters, Kay Humer (dec. Will Humer) and, Ruth Ann Jarvis and her husband, Richard of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Susanne Myers (Macdaniels) of York, and many nieces and nephews, and even more grand nieces and nephews.
Marge worked for over 23 years and retired from Carnegie Mellon University in the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry as Associate Director (1991-2015). Before CMU, she was Director at Pittsburgh Filmmakers (1988-1991) in Oakland after leaving the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts as the Theatre and Literature Director. Her background and love of the Arts, and especially Theatre drove her to pursue a bachelors degree in Theatre from Lycoming College and a Masters is arts management from Villanova University. Her greatest gift to her family perhaps was her selfless participation and dedication to Hope for OTHERS. The legacy gift of research tissue serves as a lasting contribution to the fight against Breast Cancer. https://www.upmcphysicianresources.com/physician-journal/05202022-understanding-cancer-through-rapid-autopsy
With all her accolades, degrees, awards, friends, and relatives, she was proudest of her daughter Julie(tte). Her family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Bridges Hospice staff, volunteers, and especially nurses.
A small private gathering will be held at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family is requesting donation be made to Hope for OTHERS, through Hillman Cancer Center.
Select “other” and type in Hope for Others; Lee/Oesterreich lab. The family will also be receiving contributions, for those who do not wish to donate online, for donation to the organization as well.
