Margaret “Pearl” Figgins, 97, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2025.
Born on November 9, 1928, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Pearl was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary McConnell and the beloved wife of the late David F. Figgins. A woman of remarkable intellect, compassion, and service, Pearl lived a life dedicated to learning, community, and generosity.
Pearl was a graduate of Queen’s University, Belfast, where she studied medicine, and later earned her Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. Her academic achievements reflected her lifelong commitment to improving the lives of others and addressing the broader needs of the communities she served.
She was a devoted supporter, volunteer, and board member of numerous organizations, including the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Brothers Brother Foundation, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, River City Brass Band, and the Pittsburgh Opera. Through her tireless involvement, Pearl gave her time, leadership, and heart to causes that strengthened and uplifted others.
Pearl was a loving mother to Lynne, Peter, Michael, and Barbara Figgins; a proud grandmother of seven; and a cherished great-grandmother of five. Her family was the center of her life, and she will be remembered for her wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support.
A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2026 to allow for international travel of family members. Memorial contributions in Pearl’s name may be made to any of her charity organizations above.
Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, Robinson Township, Pennsylvania.
