Marilyn Lobert

Marilyn Lobert, age 86 of Richland Township, on Friday, August  12, 2022. Daughter of the late Joseph and Alma Weisberg and wife of the late Adam S. Lobert, Jr. Survived by her five children Adam III, Timothy (Linda), Keith, Jody (Michele) and Lori (Michael) Maxwell; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sister Carol Lawniczak and her daughters Elaine, Nancy, Cathy, and Lisa; and their families. She will be greatly missed by her entire dance family. Her former daughters-in-law Dr. Jean Egan and Carey Roessler-Lobert; her loving dogs Sugar and Merry; and her partner, on and off the dance floor during her golden years, the late Chuck Ganster.

On the dinner menu that night was a turkey sandwich, one of her favorites. By her bedside was her clock radio with the first and strongest station tuned in, KLove Christian music. Alongside a family photo of her and her sister Carol and their parents were some of her favorite earrings. There was also one of her favorite hats. A large, bright white hat with colorful flowers and bows. The hat, of course, complemented the other portrait in the room, one of her favorites, Marilyn in a crimson dress. There was also a book “Jesus Calling” that was given to her by one of her many dancing friends. There was also a bright yellow orchid. Finally, there were three pairs of shoes. Because she always traveled with at least three pairs of shoes. One pair for the drive to the dance, one pair for the walk from the car to the dance, and at least one more pair for the dance!

The first category on Jeopardy that night was “Pittsburgh addresses”. Final Jeopardy was “Final resting places”. After Jeopardy, the Christian music station started to fade, so we turned the television on to Turner Classic Movies. The movie was Royal Wedding, a musical/romance/comedy, starring Fred Astaire and Jane Powell. Just the kind of movie mom loved. She almost made it through the entire movie. With her son Jody, his wife Michele, and her son Keith she peacefully and gracefully started her journey to Heaven at 9:24pm. We knew she wasn’t coming home; she was going home!

She was born during the ‘36 flood of Pittsburgh. She was a sweet, loving, classy, kind, funny, optimistic, considerate, elegant, and graceful lady. She raised five children while working at her husband’s meat market and Union National Bank.  She was a case manager for over twenty years at Blue Cross Blue Shield and Highmark. Marilyn went back to college in her fifties and got her master’s in nursing at age 74, yes, age 74!  She retired from nursing in her 80’s.

Marilyn was an award-winning ice skater and ice dancer. For many events she designed and created the team costumes. She was also an avid cyclist completing many daily rides of over 100 miles. She also competed and medaled in nationwide events into her 70’s. She truly had a passion for life!

Marilyn loved getting dressed up. She would always say “You can never be overdressed!” She loved music and theater, was a great baker and cook. She was an excellent seamstress, whether it was a fine silk blouse, a velvet ballroom gown, or masks for the pandemic; she could design and craft anything! She also loved ice cream, chocolate, reading, gardening, writing thank you cards, high heels, and ballroom dancing. Dancing was her life!

She enjoyed attending church and especially looked forward to when she was able to serve, volunteer and contribute. We thank God for Marilyn, and we thank God for being blessed to know her.
