Marjorie (Marge) Esther Strong Schaefer, age 93, of Robinson Township, Pennsylvania, formerly of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, at Lexington Court Care Center in Lexington, Ohio.
She was the beloved wife of the late William Schaefer, Jr. Born on September 8, 1932, in Johnstown, Marge was the daughter of the late George and Mary Hotham Strong.
Marge is survived by her loving children, William (Diane Umbenhauer) Schaefer, III and Mary (Roger) Long; and her cherished grandchildren, Andy Schaefer, Emily Schaefer, Aaron Long, and Brian Long. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Rebecca Strong Auman and George Strong.
A proud graduate of Richland Township High School, Marge went on to earn her degree in Business Education from Indiana State Teachers College. She later provided secretarial support for her husband’s musical instrument repair business, contributing greatly to its success. Marge also volunteered as secretary to the West Hills Symphonic Band for many years, and was an enthusiastic supporter of the organization throughout her life.
Throughout their 58-year marriage, Marge and William shared travel adventures with family and close friends. Marge was an avid tennis player for nearly four decades, sharing the court and lasting friendships with a dear group of friends. She had a passion for learning and creativity, enjoying a wide range of crafts and hobbies, from origami to cake decorating. She also found great joy in gardening, especially tending to her beautiful irises and lilies. Marge continued her love of learning by keeping current with the latest computer and cell phone technologies even into her 90s, often surprising people by answering a call on her smart watch.
A devoted member of Union Church of Robinson, Marge lived her life with quiet faith and kindness. She will be remembered as a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and gentle spirit touched many.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lexington Court Care Center for the loving care and kindness shown to Marge over the last two years. The warmth they showed her is so greatly appreciated.
