Max Lawrence Schmitz, age 54 of Brentwood, passed away unexpectedly on October 18, 2022. Born in Pittsburgh on June 25, 1968, the son of the late Bernard Eugene “Gene” and Joanne Schmitz. Brother of Glenn (Kimberly) Schmitz and the late Eric Schmitz; uncle of Gizella and Imogene. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. In his youth Max participated in a variety of athletic and scholastic activities including pick-up basketball games at Wiltshire and other community parks. He was a member of the track and field team and high school yearbook committee. Following graduation from Upper St. Clair, Max attended Duke University on a Naval ROTC scholarship where he earned a degree in Economics. In addition to watching his beloved Blue Devils, Max loved listening to and playing music. He was a skilled guitarist as well as a voracious reader. He was generous with his time and loved to help others in need. Max’s brother encourages anyone reading this to become familiar with your local laws pertaining to mental health including involuntary commitment.
