Mel was a great man to work with. He pulled me out of the line of fire many times when I was a nurse at Mayview State Hospital. I was honored to be among his friends, and my deepest sympathy goes out to all of his family and close friends. There will never be another one like him, that is for sure! I am shocked at this news. He was a father figure for me growing up and treated me like one of his own; whether it was picking me up from day care when I misbehaved or giving me advice on women. His sense of humor was one of a kind and that will be missed by many, including me. My prayers go out to his family and all of you that know and love him.
