Michael Alan Zemaitis

Michael Alan Zemaitis, 79, of Canonsburg, PA passed away unexpectedly peacefully in his sleep on March 28th, 2026. Born on August 21, 1946 in York, Pennsylvania he is the son of the late Leonard and Ruth Zemaitis.
Mike was a devoted husband to Virginia “Ginny” Zemaitis, and a loving father to David (Staci) Zemaitis, Mark (Bethany) Zemaitis, Kristi Bigos, and Michael Bigos. He was the very best Pap Pap to Katie, Michael, Sam, Rebecca, Tessa, Dylan, Rowan, Caroline, Griffin, and Makena.
He graduated with a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1968 and with his PhD in Pharmacology in 1975 from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine.
Dr. Z spent his career as a beloved Professor and scientist at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. He leaves behind a legacy defined by intellectual curiosity, mentorship, and a deep commitment to those around him. He inspired countless students with both his rigorous approach to science and his genuine investment in their success. His colleagues will remember him as a thoughtful collaborator and friend.
Mike enjoyed his retirement with Ginny and his “Gourmet” friends and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved playing pickleball and card games with his Waterdam Farms friends, and playing golf, fishing, and traveling.
In addition to his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by his sister Ann (Wes) Bridge and brother Tom (Jackie) Zemaitis, nieces and nephews (Amy, Jane, Dan (Kelly), Steve (Liz) and their children (Elena, Maya, Nolan, Will, Quinn, and Eve).
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31st, 2026 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA, 15317. A mass of Christian burial will be held on April 1st, 2026 at 10am at St. Benedict the Abbott, 120 Abington Drive, McMurray, PA, 15317. Everyone please meet at the church. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
