Michael Pauley

Michael Pauley was born May 13, 1944 and passed away on Tuesday, December 23 at the age of 81. Mike was the fourth of eight children born to Dr. Charles and Mary Pauley. Four of his siblings (Caroline Murray, Geraldine Hayward, Charles Pauley and Larry Pauley) pre-deceased Mike along with his former wife, Vera. He has three living sisters (Virginia Davis, Linda Thwaite and Elaine Oddis) and is also survived by ten nieces and nephews. Mike was a Navy veteran who was born in Pittsburgh and lived many years in Florida before returning to Pittsburgh. Mike was a gregarious, fun-loving person who looked forward to family parties and being with those that he loved. Two of his closest friends since grade school (Mike Shellaby and John Thomas) spent valuable time with Mike during the health challenges that he experienced over the past couple of years and he cherished his relationship with these life-long friends. Mike’s family owes a debt of gratitude to Art and Sally Hay who helped Mike immensely and were always there for him providing emotional support. Although his battle with terminal cancer ravaged his body, it never compromised his upbeat attitude as exemplified from the many health care workers who cared for Mike (especially his wonderful nurse Beth) and shared with his family what a blessing he was to others and how “everyone loved Mike.” We will miss Mike but his memory lives on as we remember and strive to emulate his indomitable spirit.
