Nicholas “Nick” James Brack, Sr., Age 91, of Hays, left us peacefully in the tender loving care of the staff at Promedica\Manor Care in Bethel Park, on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 2:15 pm, in the hands of Dr. Howard Pittle and Gail Bernhart, RN. He was born on May 7, 1930 in Pittsburgh and is the son of the late Louis and Philomena (Vecchio) Brack.
Husband of the late Elsie (Playso) Brack and Mary Ruth (Reffner) Brack. Loving father of Sandra Lee Brack; stepfather of Tina (Saiani) Palmer and Geno (Stephanie) Saiani; grandfather of Leyna (Ryan) Palmer Pope, James Palmer III and Cary (Stephen Hutchison) Palmer; great-grandfather of Addison and James IV; brother-in-law of Lillian (Bertan) Brack; uncle of Floyd, Jr. (Melissa) Brack and their daughter Kristen, Michael (Beth) Brack and their daughters Alyssa and Erica. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Rose “Dolly” Brack, brother Floyd, Sr. and son Nicholas Brack, Jr.
Nick started his employment with Dick Corporation/Trumbull and ended at Baldwin Asphalt with various positions over the years starting as a young laborer in the road construction industry. He moved on to a road shift supervisor, mechanic and heavy equipment operator and was a member of Local 66 Operators Union.
Nick enjoyed life to the fullest with his early love for car racing and riding motorcycles. He was a long-time member of the Mon Valley HOG club alongside Nick, Jr. and accompanied him on many rides with members and Nick’s friends. Father’s Day tradition was a ride with the group with Sandra on the back of Dads Harley holding him close. His love for hunting with his father and brother took him to the woods of Tionesta, PA where a cabin was built in 1953 with his brother Floyd and friend Chuck.
He lived to head to “camp” on the weekends where many happy memories were made with family and friends in the mountains. It was his weekend escape. His other love was music and enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with friends and his home was often filled with musicians and the musical gene was inherited by Nick Jr. along with beautiful vocals.
A celebration of life will be held at the Calvary Cemetery Chapel at a later date. Friends and family will be notified and are encouraged to bring a favorite photo and share a special memory or story you shared with Nick. Thank you again to all the dedicated loving staff who filled his day with their professional care and also their love and respect during his stay as they all became an extension of our family and treated him like their family. Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, McMurray, PA.
