Raymond J. Westbrook, 77, of Pittsburgh, passed away on December 6th surrounded by his sons and loved ones. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Phyllis and Ansley Westbrook, along with his brother Parris Westbrook, and is survived by his sons Ansley II, Christian, Michael, and Taylor, as well as his beloved dog Jasmine. He was a charitable and active member of his community, a former pharmacist who spent much of his time in service of the homeless and in spiritual studies. On Thanksgiving and other holidays, he could be found under a city bridge handing out meals and coats. His favorite places included the Outer Banks and his cabin in Champion. He was passionate about helping those who are less fortunate, traveling to Haiti and Rosebud Indian Reservation to offer aid. A dedicated student of stoic philosophy, his favorite saying was “Our serenity is inversely proportional to our expectations.” The family asks that, in Ray’s honor, you make a donation to your local food bank or a homeless shelter.  A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, Robinson Twp.

Ansley and family. I heard Ray's quote on serenity often and thanks to Ray took it to heart. He was a quiet man who words carried depth and weight. It was an honor and privilege to call him my friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and those who knew Ray and who will surely miss his fellowship.
