Richard Andrew Kozak

Richard Andrew Kozak, age 75, departed this world and entered the gates of heaven on Friday, March 11, 2022, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born in Sewickley, PA, to the late Andrew and Mary Plocinik Kozak. He was the father of Richard A. Kozak, Jr., and beloved brother to Suzanne M. Smith (David) and Marilyn D. Spies (Jim Callahan), both of Upper St. Clair; loving partner of Sherry Brownrigg (deceased); proud Pops to Donovan and Delaney Kozak; and former father in law to Jenni Hess-Meister. Also survived by nephews Zachary (Dawn) and Alexander Smith; Brandon and Dustin (Jesse) Spies; nieces Meghan Smith, Heather Spies and Shannon Spies (Brian Scullion); and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Richard was a graduate of Brown University and held a Masters from the University of Maryland.  Upon enlisting in the Army in the early 70’s, Richard was placed in the White House Communications Agency which ignited his interest in telecommunications.  Throughout his life he held numerous senior level positions in the telecommunications industry, residing in Maryland a large part of his life, most recenly in Annapolis, MD. He relocated to Pittsburgh in 2013 to be near his sisters and their families who could help care for him.  Richard loved football, Elvis music, spending time with this family, walking dogs, including his beloved Springer Spaniel Bentley, and riding his Harley in his earlier years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at St. Louise de Marillac Church, 329 McMurray Rd., Upper St. Clair, PA, at 10:00 am, with burial at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s research.
