Rita M. Smochko

Rita M. Smochko, age 87, of McMurray, formerly of Castle Shannon, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026.

She was the loving wife of the late John Smochko. Rita was born on June 23, 1938, in Leisenring, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late Rev. Ivan and Magdeline Romza.

Rita was a beloved sister to the late John, Andrew, Victor, and Robert Romza. She is survived by her sister-in-law Nancy Romza; her nephews Robert and David Romza; her niece Linda (Rick) Forrester; and her great-nephews Eric (Liz) Forrester and Kevin (Jenna) Forrester.

Rita had a gentle and kind spirit. Her deep commitment to her faith, family, and friends was evident every day through her actions, words, and deeds. She had a special love for all furry friends and greatly enjoyed finding and sharing sweet pictures and stories about all kinds of animals.

Friends are welcome to attend the Funeral Divine Service, which will be held at St. Gregory’s Byzantine Catholic Church on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 10:30 am. at 2005 Mohawk Road, Upper St. Clair, PA 15241. In case of inclement weather, the service will be rescheduled at a later date. Private internment will take place at St. Mark’s Cemetery in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania.
