Robert Barker Bumer, age 89, of Mt. Lebanon, died surrounded by his family on January 10, 2025, just two days shy of his 90th birthday.

He was the beloved husband of 59 years to Sue Bumer; loving father of Amy Bumer and Jim Bumer and their spouses, Rob Spikula and Lynn Bumer; adored “Bocca” to his grandchildren, Chloe, Mason, Brooke, and Morgan; dear brother of Marilyn Vennare, Carol Pieroni, and Jean Entress; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Carl Bumer; brothers, Donald, James, and David; and in-laws, Helen and Bob Baggs.

An accomplished businessman, Bob earned the nickname “Candy Man” during his long and successful career as President of Bumer, Anderson, and Gillette, a company in confectionary sales. His commitment to the candy industry was recognized in 1986 when he was inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame in Hershey, PA.

Bob was also a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served in Germany during the Korean War.

Bob had a great sense of humor and a boisterous laugh. He enjoyed  gardening, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and puttering in his workshop. Sue often encouraged travel, especially to France, which he eventually grew to love.

Most of all, Bob’s greatest joy came from being with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 10 am followed by a memorial service at 12 pm at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Rd., Bethel Park, PA 15102.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to St. Judes Children’s Hospital at http://stjude.org

Sue and Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. Bob was a great, lovable and loving man. I had so many good times and a lot of laughs with Bob. It was Bob's time to go home with God and his family that had passed before him. He is now at peace and in a better place. He will always be with you all taking care and watching over you. God Bless You. Kim McNeill
