Robert James Robertson, 82, of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2025.

Born on October 7, 1943, Bob was the son of the late Robert and Kathleen Robertson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret, with whom he shared 58 years of devoted marriage; his loving son, Ian Robertson; his brother, James (Sylvia) Robertson; and several cherished nieces and nephews.

Bob earned his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh, where he built a distinguished career and retired in 2011. As a professor of exercise and physiology in the Health and Education Department, he guided numerous doctoral students, many of whom now serve in universities and hospitals across the country. Though his list of publications, awards, and accolades was extensive, Bob’s true passion was teaching. His students always came first, and he was known as a gifted educator whose patience, clarity, and encouragement helped shape countless careers. Bob was also honored as a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, and he will be remembered fondly by many of his colleagues.

Beyond his academic life, Bob was generous with his time and charitable in spirit. His kindness touched co-workers, friends, and family alike. He was an active member of several sporting clubs and found great joy in trap and skeet shooting. He also treasured his time on the golf course, where he formed lasting friendships and enjoyed the camaraderie of the game.

An early and dedicated proponent of exercise and cardiac rehabilitation, Bob believed deeply in the value of wellness and movement, and he lived that philosophy every day. He was grateful for everyone who enriched his life, and he will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials in Bob’s honor may be made to the American Heart Association or the City Mission of Washington, PA.

Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, McMurray, PA.
