The skilled anesthesiologist, and mentor, Dr. Widows, was the first chief of anesthesia under whom I worked after residency. Dr. Widows was wickedly sharp but never made a show of it. A fellow trombone player (albeit a professional far beyond my level), he knew many of the 'greats' who were his contemporaries. We also shared an interest in physics. It was always a pleasure to converse with him between cases. A happy man, he frequently spoke of and adored his family. I wish to convey my condolences and prayers to them.
