Roy Pirain, age 81, a lifelong Pittsburgh native passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Born in Brookline, PA, he was the son of the late Della Buchigani Pirain and he was raised by his grandparents Louis and Emelia Buchignani. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Joan Michael Pirain. Loving father to John (Lynn), David (Erin), Renee (Joel) Vasilko, J. Reed (Elizabeth). Cherished grandfather to Malayna, Amanda, Justin, Ben, Ryan, Amelia, Lillian, Della, and Reese. Loving brother to Ramona Dryer. Roy was also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard (Joanne) Pirain.

Roy graduated from South Hills High School and attended Youngstown University. He proudly served in the United States Marine Reserves.

For the past 40 years, Roy and his wife, Joan, operated a successful real estate company and were actively involved in the industry. Roy dedicated his time and valuable knowledge as the president of both the Apartment Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh and Builders Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh. One of Roy’s most proud achievements was teaching his kids the real estate business and seeing it flourish.

Roy enjoyed being outside gardening, taking long rides on his tractor and swimming. Roy also enjoyed going to the movies and eating ice cream. Together he and Joan enjoyed spending time in Florida with their Marina Tower friends and donating his time to the auxiliary coast guard. He also volunteered at the Boys Club. A day with Roy was a routine well known by those close to him. Breakfast with Joan, then off to Mt. Washington to check on his properties and see what his kids were up to,  then back home to work in the yard. If you asked him, that was a perfect day.

Family and friends are welcome on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 2 PM – 7 PM at Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, (724) 260-5546. A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11 AM.
