Ruth Mechling

1924 — 2018

Ruth Mechling, 94, passed away December 17th, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. Born Ruth Ellen Ensminger on July 3rd, 1924, she spent her whole life in Crafton, PA, raising her family and looking after all those dear to her.

Loved by all who met her, Ruth was an integral member of her church, Crafton United Presbyterian Church, and she brought joy to those around her with her warm smile and melodic laugh.

She married Ralf H. Mechling on August 5th, 1951. Ruth’s pride and joy was her family.  Ruth was preceded in death by her son Ralph Jr., and her husband Ralph. She is survived by 7 children, Lynn (Mike) Kriska, Alberta Coulter, Robert (Mary) Arbuckle, Denise Philips, Cort (Linda) Mechling, Mark (Krista) Mechling, Aline (Robert) Shick, 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She had a great knack for gardening, and could name nearly every plant, to most everyone’s amazement. She also enjoyed ceramics and sewing.

Ruth was always incredibly brave and resilient, and she never let anything get in the way of her or her family’s happiness.

She made her home the center of so many memories, as her door was always open, and she treated everyone like family.

A memorial service will be held at the Crafton United Presbyterian Church, 80 Bradford Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15205, on January 26that 1:00 p.m. for anyone who wishes to pay their respects with a lunch following provided by the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ruth’s memory to the Southwestern Veterans Center where she has resided the past year. Donations can be mailed to the attention of John Ayers, 7060 Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15206 or you can go to their website:  https://www.dmva.pa.gov/stateveteranshomes/southwestern-veterans-center/Pages/Donate-to-the-Center.aspx

We loved you every day and now we will miss you every day.
