Samuel Lawrence Sorice, 76, of Washington passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022, surrounded by his family and beloved dog, Maggie, and listening to his favorite oldies. He was born October 6, 1945, the son of John and Kathryn Lawrence Sorice. He was a graduate of Washington High School, where he excelled in sports. He attended Bullis Prep School, the U.S. Naval Academy, and graduated from Washington and Jefferson College. On June 22, 1968, he married Patricia A. Burk, with whom he shared over 54 years of marriage.

Mr. Sorice owned and operated Sorice Trucking, Inc. for over thirty years. He was a co-worker as much as a boss, and could often be found rigging a giant machine or repairing a disabled truck. Nights and weekends were often interrupted by missions for valued customers. After closing the business in 2003, he worked with the R.G. Johnson Company, Inc. until his retirement in 2010.

A kind and reserved man, Sam was devoted to his family and friends. His wisdom was quietly shared, informed by kindness, and taught by example. He loved hosting big family reunions for the Sorice’s, the Burk’s, and his many friends, but he also liked quiet dinners at local haunts. He enjoyed yearly vacations to NewYork’s Lake Chautauqua, where he loved boating and fishing with his grandchildren. Sam was very proud of their home and grounds in rural Buffalo Township, and approached its care with characteristic diligence. He was an antique truck enthusiast, and patiently drove his Dodge Power Wagon to local events. And, of course, he was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia, his sister, Jane Sliman, two sons, Stephen (Mary Anne) and Matthew (Kelly), a daughter,

Molly, and three grandchildren; Samuel, Kathryn, and Elijah Sorice.
