Sanford “Bill” D. Sunday

Sanford “Bill” D. Sunday, age 91 of Moon Township, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2017. Born on June 6, 1926 in Johnstown, PA. Beloved husband to the late Mary Lou Simmers and Hilda May Lowe. Loving father to Gary (Jill) Sunday and David (Joy) Sunday. Cherished grandfather of Matthew Sunday, Andrew (Sarah) Sunday, Laura Sunday, and Rachel Sunday and Conner Sunday, Spence Sunday, and Riley Sunday. Dear uncle to Daniel (Susan) Simmers and Dorothy Simmers. Loving great uncle to Sara, Emma, and Nora Simmers.

Sanford proudly served in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge and helped liberate the Auschwitz Concentration Camp. He was a commercial artist in Pittsburgh for many years, and he was the owner of Sun-Art Associates for 40 years. He will always be a part of Pittsburgh for helping to create the Horne’s Christmas Tree. Sanford enjoyed painting, traveling, and was an avid reader. He enjoyed spending time at Corolla, NC with his grandkids at a beach home he helped to design and build.
