Sarah Jean Avery passed away peacefully with husband Neil and her daughter, Debra Miller by her side on Sunday, September 15, at the age of 81. She was born January 6, 1943, in the Rochester Hospital to the late Daniel & Sarah Donovan. She is preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Donovan and one sister, Teresa Wallace. She is survived by her beloved husband of more than 60 years, Neil L. Avery, her daughter Debra A. Miller and husband Kurt Miller, son Neil B. Avery and wife Carrie Avery and sister Nancy Smith.

Sarah grew up in Monaca, PA where she graduated from Monaca High School. Sarah worked at Westinghouse where she met her future husband Neil, the love of her life. They were married on December 7th, 1963, at Monaca Lutheran Church. They soon moved to Atlanta, starting a family. Neil B. Avery was born on August 5th, 1966, and Debra Miller on January 31st, 1969. Neil’s Westinghouse career allowed them to move to Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Saint Petersburgh, Tampa, and back to Pittsburgh where Sarah lived her life always compassionate, charitable, and gracious and raised her children as one of the best mothers ever! Sally and Neil eventually moved to Elizabeth, PA where Sally watched her three grandchildren, James Miller, Marie Thornburg (Miller), and Amanda Miller. She later had the joy of holding her great grandson, Theodore James Thornburg.

Our family would like to thank everyone who endlessly prayed for our mother in her final days and all who sent their love and support to us. We welcome all who knew her to join us in celebrating the life of a woman who is loved deeply and will be missed.

Sarah Avery celebration of life will be held on Friday September 27th, 2024, 10:30AM in the chapel.
