Stephen McLean Masters, age 66, of McDonald, passed away on April 22, 2023.

Steve was the son of the late Josephine and Kenneth Masters; beloved husband to Teresa Mazurkiewicz Masters; loving father to Peter Hilman Masters; widower to his late wife Elena Solari Masters; step father to Luke (Anna) Mazurkiewicz and Mike (Melissa) Mazurkiewicz; step grandfather to Mason, Maddox, Ava, Maverick, Alexa, and Milo Mazurkiewicz; brother to Georgia (Ed) Earp, and Jim Masters.

Steve had a kind heart and was a happy go lucky man who was always willing to cheer anyone, or any team, on. He was an avid Pittsburgh and Penn State sports fan, of which he was a proud alumnus. He was a frequent world traveler both throughout his upbringing and work, and had a love of experiencing different cultures and people. His career spanned over 30 years at Carnegie Mellon’s Software Engineering Institute, and later his own consulting company. Most of all, being a parent and grandparent was his life’s joy. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 11 am until the time of service at noon at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA 15317, 724-260-5546.

I’ve known Steve since 1982 when we worked together in New Jersey, and then had the pleasure of being colleagues again at the Software Engineering Institute during my time there. Even after we moved to Michigan we visited often and Steve was always a gracious host and a virtual Uncle to my youngest son Zachary. All of our kids enjoyed numerous Pirate games with Steve over the years and he came out to Michigan for his beloved Nittany Lions first Big Ten football game in The Big House. I never did beat him at tennis and he was an eager rebounder and good teammate during the full court hoop games we played in New Jersey and Pittsburgh. We knew Elena when they were dating and were heartbroken about her passing. Then Steve found even greater happiness with Teresa, giving him the joys of being part of loving extended family. We just exchanged IMs on 4/20, making this just that much more shocking. My wife Susan and I are stunned and so sorry for your loss.
