OBITUARY OF SULLYMAR VELLÓN CARDONA

Sullymar Vellón Cardona was born on May 15, 2013, in Rochester, New York. In February 2018, she was welcomed with immense love into the home of her parents, Joaquín Vellón Gómez and Mariluz Cardona Sorto. From the moment she arrived, Sullymar filled her home with light, joy, and love.

Sullymar was a resilient young girl, with the brave spirit of a warrior and a very special way of smiling even amid difficulties. Although she faced health challenges throughout her life, neither illness nor pain managed to extinguish her joy or keep her from enjoying life. Her strength, perseverance, and beautiful smile were a source of inspiration to those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

She enjoyed dancing, creating art, and savoring good food. She found joy in simple moments and loved spending time with the people she loved. She was a deeply loved daughter, and her presence filled her parents’ home and hearts with happiness.

Sullymar also had a heart ready to serve. She liked helping children younger than herself and enjoyed assisting as a helper to the Sunday school teacher. Her willingness to help reflected the affection she felt for children and the joy she found in serving others.

Within our faith family at Iglesia Sion (Zion Church), Sullymar was a deeply loved sister. Her life, her smile, and her perseverance strengthened the faith and deepened the love of many people. Her time among us left a mark that will remain in the hearts of those who shared life with her.

Surrounded by her family’s love, Sullymar departed to her eternal home on July 17, 2026, at the age of 13, at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

She is survived by her beloved parents, Joaquín and Mariluz, as well as members of her extended family, whom Sullymar loved deeply. Her memory will also be treasured by our Iglesia Sion family and by all the people whose lives were touched by her joy, strength, and love.

The family is deeply grateful for every prayer, word of comfort, and expression of love received during this time. Sullymar’s life was a gift, and her smile, courage, and love will continue to live on in the memory of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, July 23, 2026 from 1:00-3:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 5405 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township, PA, 15136. A service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 10:00 am at Iglesia Sion, 31 Warriors Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15205, followed by burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1715 Middletown Rd, McKees Rocks, PA 15136.

Our family is lifting Sully’s family up in constant prayer. The loss of such a beautiful young girl shakes the soul, and only the Lord can hold a hurt this heavy. Brooks was blessed to know her. They were in the same grade at WAMS. He talked about her often. May God’s presence surround you, may His peace steady your hearts, and may His promise of eternal life bring comfort in the days ahead. Heaven welcomed a precious daughter, and her light will shine on through every life she touched.
