Supote S. Komen was a devoted doctor, husband, and father. The second of five children, he grew up in Bangkok, Thailand, where he was briefly ordained as a Buddhist monk. His profound compassion led him to study medicine. After moving to Pittsburgh, PA, he completed his residency and fellowship at St. Francis Hospital and later served at Mon Valley Hospital as a cardiologist and internist for over 30 years. His patients, family, and friends will forever remember him for his unwavering kindness, gentleness, wisdom, sense of humor, and beautiful singing voice. When he wasn’t tending to patients or his family, he enjoyed meditating, studying Buddhism, singing karaoke, playing basketball, and eating seafood. After he suffered a severe stroke in 2015, his wife cared for him at home, where he spent his final years in peace. Supote passed away on October 24, 2024 at the age of 76. He is survived by his three sisters and their spouses, brother, wife, two children, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, and various nieces and nephews, all of whom will live on in his example. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the American Stroke Association or the American Heart Association.
