Sylvia Andy, age 90 of Washington, PA formerly of Canonsburg, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Born on January 15, 1927 in Canonsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rose and John Verrone. Beloved wife of the late Frank Andy Sr. Loving mother to Christine (Dennis) Bitz and Karen Andy. Cherished grandmother of Jason (Audra) Andy, Angela Kelley, Eric (Holly) Bitz, Daniel (Stephanie) Bitz, Alexsandra Bitz, Matthew and Michael Myzak. Dear great-grandmother of  Morgan, Maverick, Anthony, Arabella, Natalia, Henry and Joseph. Loving sister to Jean Mascetta. Mother-in-law to Debora Andy. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Sylvia was preceded in death by her son Frank Andy, Jr., her sister Marguerite and her great-grandchild Audia.

Sylvia graduated from Duff’s Iron City Business College in Pittsburgh, after which she worked for a patent attorney in Pittsburgh and then Fort Pitt Bridge Works in Canonsburg, and finally she worked for the family business, Andy Brother’s Tire Service in Canonsburg and J & F Tire in Houston. She was a member and past president of the Martha Washington Quilter’s Guild and Sylvia was very proud of her dedication to the IC School Quilting group where she contributed to completing a quilt each year that was raffled off to benefit the school. She also volunteered at the snack bar at the Washington County Health Center for many years. Sylvia loved quilting, jigsaw puzzles, her orchids, her rose garden, watching the  Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates and most of all spending Sunday dinners with her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends are welcome on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 2 PM – 8 PM at Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, (724) 260-5546. A Blessing  Service will take place on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 10 AM at the funeral home. Internment will take place privately at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to John F. Kennedy Catholic School.
