THOMAS B. EYLER
February 13, 1968 – June 15, 2024
Thomas B. Eyler of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of West Chester passed away peacefully on June 15 at the age of 56. Tom was born February 13, 1968 in Philadelphia, son of Deborah Eyler Smith of Mt. Lebanon, PA, and Robert Eyler of Dyer, IN., brother of Robert W. Eyler (Lorraine) of Shaler, Lori Ann Meyer (Scott) of Indianapolis IN, and Amy E. Smith (Erin) of Telluride, CO. and Uncle of Allie, Josh, Savannah, Tiffany and Jaxyn.
Tom worked for Legrand North America (formerly Universal Electric) in Canonsburg as a Calibration Technician for the past 13 years. He was a kind, sensitive and gentle human who endured a long and difficult struggle with alcoholism. It seems many people with the worst addictions are the most sensitive, kind and gentle souls and Tom was one of them – the world just seemed too difficult for Tom. Our thoughts are with the many families who have someone fighting the same demon.
Tom enjoyed outdoor activities and loved fishing, classic rock, watching Penguins, Steelers & Pirates games, concerts, and was an avid follower of any and all incoming severe weather reports. He loved to cook and was a master of ingredient improvisation. As an organ donor, Tom would be very happy knowing that his passing will bring a better life to someone. Tom’s life was short and he did not have a family of his own, yet he may live on through others. He makes his family proud while giving another family hope.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Pittsburgh Steelwheelers, a non-profit adaptive sports program that has meant a lot to our family over the years and in which Tom’s brother Bob has been a long-time member. Donations may be made at www.steelwheelers.com under the donate tab through Pay-Pal or to Steelwheelers, c/o Julie Gallagher, 7 Oak Drive, Pittsburgh PA 15214.
