Thomas Gerard Cronin, 79, of Cecil, passed away on September 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Raised in Bridgeville, Tom was the son of the late Joseph T. and Elena (Piazza) Cronin and graduated from Chartiers Valley High School in 1966. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Algol, where he served as a Machinist’s Mate.

Tom spent more than 40 years with Cianflone Scientific in Pittsburgh, where his work centered on the PortaSpec, a specialized instrument used for X-ray analysis and coating measurement.

Tom was a devoted husband to his wife, Linda, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. He was a loving father to Aimee and Daniel. Tom was also a proud grandfather to Gwendolyn and Grady Fitzgerald, who brought him great joy. He loved being part of their lives and was always there for their games, performances, and special events. He is also survived by his five siblings, Timothy (Marilyn) Cronin, Kathleen (James) Britton, Patricia Cronin, Carol (the late Thomas) Britton, and Jeanne Cronin, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Tom had a lifelong love of woodworking and could often be found in his shop working on his latest project. He took great pride in creating things with his hands, especially for his family.

Tom also had a sense of adventure, bicycling from Pennsylvania to Florida, biking to Washington, D.C. with his brother-in-law, Tom, and hiking to Machu Picchu with his son. He also loved golf, whether playing a round, watching on TV, or hitting golf balls at Mingo Creek Park.

Tom gave his time to Ramps of Grace, volunteering to help build wheelchair ramps for those in need. Tom spent countless hours at practices and games, coaching and supporting his family. He was also well known in the local soccer community as a longtime high school referee.

Those who knew Tom will remember his sharp wit and endless energy. Above all, Tom loved his family. He showed that love in countless ways, often through the things he built, fixed, and did for them. The things he made and the memories he leaves behind will be treasured by his family forever.

Friends will gather on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, September 17th at 12:00 pm at St. Patrick Church 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317 (St. Oscar Romero Parish). Inurnment with military honors will follow the Mass at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies at 1:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ramps of Grace, where Tom was proud to volunteer. Cash or checks made payable to “Ramps of Grace” may be mailed to West Alexander United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 302, West Alexander, PA 15376.
