Virginia “Bunky” Kwolek of Aliquippa passed away peacefully on December 20th, 2021. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and sister, she was born on May 29th, 1928 to Paul and Clara Fontana. Her greatest passions included nursing, spending time with her family, traveling the world and cheering on her hometown Pittsburgh Steelers.

A retired nurse from the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit, Bunky was a graduate of Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing, Slippery Rock University and Duquesne University.  She was a member of the Raccoon United Presbyterian Church and served many years as an Elder and Deacon.

It’s difficult to write a few sentences that fully capture Bunky’s magnanimous personality, mischievous sense of humor or how fiercely supportive she was of her family.

And although the holidays will be difficult without her this year, her family is warmed by the many memories made at her house, which was the neighborhood hub, holiday gathering place and Santa’s second workshop.

She was a devoted wife of 59 years and was preceded in death by her husband, Edward S Kwolek and sister, Emma Jane Mraovich. The memory of her caring spirit, contagious laugh, and loving kindness will be remembered by brothers, Charles Fontana and Robert (Judy) Fontana, daughter Jody (George) Christophe, sons Edward Kwolek, and Robert (Denise) Kwolek, son-in-law Dan Becker, grandchildren Casey (Patrick) Cook, Chelsea (Seth) Hutchinson, Adam Christophe, Ian Hefele, Cheryl Christophe, Zachary and Kennedi Thompson, great grandchildren, Skylar, PJ, Remy, Millie, and Greggie, her faithful dog, Colby and her wonderful caregivers and partners in crime: Aura, Suzanne, and Cindy.

A special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver.

Arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, Robinson Township, PA. A celebration of Bunky’s life is planned for this Spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Animal Rescue, 1101 Western Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
