William Henry Hathaway II, of Whitehall, PA, passed away suddenly on December 8, 2025.

Bill was a passionate musician, gifted songwriter, and the lead singer of the rock band Kid Bonney. Through his music, he left a lasting mark on those who heard it, pouring his heart, honesty, and energy into every song. Alongside his bandmates, Bill produced two albums that continue to resonate with friends, fans, and fellow musicians who admired his talent and authenticity.

Beyond music, Bill was deeply committed to building community. He was a founding member of Sunday Assembly Pittsburgh, a non-religious group that gathers to celebrate life.  There he helped build a place where people lived better, helped often, and wondered more.  Whether through song or service, Bill had a way of bringing people together.

Above all else, Bill was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Dawn and stepdaughter Max; his ex-wife and oldest childhood friend, Michele; and his two amazing daughters, Kayleigh and Kiera, whom he adored beyond measure. His love for his daughters was evident in every part of his life and remains a defining legacy of who he was.

Bill also leaves behind countless friends, fellow musicians, and fans whose lives were touched by his music, kindness, and spirit. His voice, creativity, and presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Private arrangements were entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care, Robinson Township, Pennsylvania

So very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I counted him among my closest friends in high school, but had lost touch over the years. Reading about his life, I was not surprised to learn about the joy he brought to others, and I was particularly glad to know about the non-religious Sunday Assembly community he founded. What a brilliant Bill-like thing to have done. My condolences to his family and friends.

I am so sorry to learn of Bill's passing, which I heard about yesterday at Sunday Assembly. I am a longtime Sunday Assembly Pittsburgh member and board member and know Bill Hathaway as a founder, former President, and driving force of Sunday Assembly Pittsburgh. His vision, talent, and enthusiasm made Sunday Assembly possible. We will forever remember him performing "Santa Claus is Comming to Town" in the style of Bruce Springsteen at Sunday Assembly while confetti rained down at our annual "Yule Rock." He also led the band in the early years. Incidentally, this was the first year (the eleventh year of Sunday Assembly Pittsburgh), that we did not call our December holiday assembly "Yule Rock" as we finally admitted we can't live up to that name and that level of energy without Bill. Though he hadn't been attending in recent years, he was very proud knowing the Sunday Assembly he planted continues strong with an ever-evolving cast of charachers on the strenght of the vision and format he championed. I last saw him at our 10th Anniversary celebration last year (we had invited him as a founder to be recognized), and know I he was very proud and very happy with what he saw happening that day. I also got to see Bill's band Kid Bonney and it was awesome. Bill embodied the Sunday Assembly goal of celebrating the one life we know we havem and left an amazing legacy that is so appreciated by Pittsburgh's secular community.
