William W. Guthrie, 87, of Mt. Lebanon, PA, beloved husband of Carol Guthrie. Born on 8/30/34 in Pittsburgh, PA. He is the son of the late James Guthrie and Romayne Heller. Loving father of William M. Guthrie, Gregg A. Guthrie, Billie Jo Guthrie, and step-daughter, Laura Essel. Grandchildren Max, Michael, Jessica and Emily. William served in the United States Navy from 1957-1960. He graduated Law School from the University of Pittsburgh in 1968 and was an amazing attorney for over 50 years practicing general civil law, family law, negligence law, and insurance law. William loved sports. He was an avid Steelers, Pirates and Pitt Panthers fan and loved to attend games during their seasons. He also loved the Chesapeake Bay Area and the Laurel Mountains where he spent a lot of time at his cabin near Trent. Listening to Frank Sinatra and Luciano Pavarotti, reading, and eating sweet desserts were also some of his favorite past-times. Special thanks to the incredible staff at Southwestern Veterans’ Center for giving him such love and compassionate care. We will always carry William’s memory in our hearts. A private ceremony will be held by the family this summer.

I am so sorry for your loss. Bill will truly be missed. I am not sure he realized how much he helped me in my career as an attorney. Every party or get together at Gregg’s house included an interesting and helpful discussion about various cases Gregg or I might be working on. Bill never talked about his own cases or successes. Rather, to help us out, he would give some welcomed advice and insight on how to handle certain aspects of our respective cases. He was always encouraging us. It was tremendous help for a young lawyer trying to become better at his craft. Bill, thanks for the great help and guidance.
