Richard C. Gitzen, Jr.

Age 70, of Uniontown, formerly of Pittsburgh died on Saturday, June 9, 2012 while surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 22, 1942 in Pittsburgh, he was a 1961 graduate of St. Basil’s High School in Carrick. He enlisted in the Marine Corps, becoming a senior drill instructor in Parris Island, SC and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He worked for Fox Grocery and Supervalu Warehouses in Belle Vernon for 30 years. He was a member of Hopwood Amvets Post 103 and Dravosburg American Legion post 380. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; Richard C. Sr. and Mary R. (Sopata) Gitzen. He is survived by his wife Carole M. (Westell); daughter Bernadette M. (James) Miller; grandson Shane A. Miller; sisters Rita F. Gurtner and Margaret (George) Wolf; and a twin brother Joseph E. (Patricia) Gitzen, He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. A memorial service and inurnment with full military honors will be held at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, located in Bridgeville, on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 10:30 AM.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Cremation & Funeral Care by Danielle Andy Belusko, 3287 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA 15317., (724)260-5546.
