Barbara “Babs” Vogel, 88, of Pittsburgh, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Barbara was born on June 19, 1935, in Pittsburgh, PA to Laurence and Margaret Metzler.

She was a graduate of Langley High School in Pittsburgh. The youngest of seven siblings, Barbara was the rallying point around all family holidays, life events, and celebrations. She loved her five daughters dearly and stayed close to them her entire life. She adored her 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and the site of any one of them brought a smile to her face.

An avid dancer who was always on the move, Barbara was considered the life of the party, and her quick wit and loving demeanor became the essence of who she was. When her kids were young, she made their home on Sterling Drive welcome to all, hosting parties and making it the neighborhood gathering place. She valued her friendships as much as her family, regularly playing cards, shopping, or going out to eat with whoever she could conscript.

Barbara was the matriarch of the Vogel family and a constant in everyone’s lives. Words are not sufficient to tell how she will be missed. She was a trusted confidant to her grandkids and great grandkids and was concerned at the thought of having to leave them behind until her last day. She was a loving mom, a committed wife, and a reliable sister. She valued her faith which carried her throughout this life and into the next. The void that has been created with her passing will be felt through many generations.

She is survived by her brother Fred Metzler and five daughters Jolie (Wayne) Olexa, Rochelle Stachel, Rene Loebig, Tara (Mike) Tomer, and Colleen (Kevin) Crabbe. She was proceeded in death by her husband Richard C. Vogel, father Laurence Metzer Sr., mother Margaret Metzler, brothers C. Hubert and Lawrence (Sophie) Metzler, Jr., and sisters Ruth (Robert) Klein, Elizabeth Ann Robinson, and Pat (Humbert) Comas.

Pittsburgh Cremation & Funeral Care is honored to serve the family of Barbara Vogel where visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm at 5405 Steubenville Pike, Robinson Township, PA 15316. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday at 10:00 am at Archangel Gabriel Parish (St. Malachy Church) 343 Forest Grove Road, Coraopolis, PA 15108. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Moon Township, PA.

Words can not express how sad we are with Barb’s passing. She not only welcomed our daughter into her family when she married Barb’s grandson but she welcome Larry and I as well as my parents and aunt Susan who she never failed to ask about any time we saw her. A gifted conversationalist who made everyone feel comfortable. I’ll always remember our trip to Tennessee with her, Rene’ and Jolie. She will be missed. ❤️

We enjoyed knowing Barb as our next-door neighbor on Norwich Ct. she was so lovely and caring and always happy to sit and visit on the front porch. Her faith was strong through health issues and family sadnesses. We miss our good friend. And our sympathy to all her family.

I met Barbara and Rich many years ago through Barb’s nephew Harry Klein. Harry, Frank Leone and I would turn up at Barbs home to shoot pool and visit and just hang out on weekend evenings during our High School years and thereafter. Barb and Rich were always so welcoming into their Robinson Township home. Although I have not seen Barbara or any of her beautiful daughters in too many years, I will never forget her smile and how she welcomed people into her Sterling Drive home at any time of day or night. I know that Barbs nephew Harry thought the world of Barbara and I’m sure that Frank Leone would agree with me that Barb was a positive force in our young lives. Thank you Barbara. Rest in peace.

Deep condolences for the loss of a loving, and much-loved woman. May you feel pride greater than sadness over her loss, Jolie and Rochelle.
