David R. McKinney, age 77, of North Strabane Township, Pa., passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024. Born on October 4, 1946, in Ellwood City, Pa. He was the son of the late Lt Col. Jack N. and Nancy (Clark) McKinney.

David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Fincham McKinney. Loving father to Stephen (Kelly) McKinney of Baton Rouge, La., and Christopher (Rita) McKinney of Richmond Hill, Ga. Beloved Pop-Pop to Sean McKinney, Rachel McKinney, Hannah McKinney, Madison McKinney, and Avery McKinney. Brother to Janna (Gary) Kirkwood, of Wampum, Pa. Best Friends to David E. and Joann (deceased) Dietz, also of North Strabane, he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

David was a proud Vietnam Army veteran, a natural extension of his upbringing in a military family, who lived abroad for several years in England and Japan. He was a graduate of Chofu High School in Tokyo, and took great pride in watching his sons pursue their own military service. As an avid outdoorsman, David enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was also a member of the Waterdam Church in Canonsburg, PA. His biggest priority was his family, and spending time with his grandchildren.

At the request of David, interment will occur this summer at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation (https://www.parkinson.org) and/or the Waterdam Church, 208 Galley Road, Canonsburg, PA 15317.

Dear McKinney family, What a privilege to have been able to take care of David. There was a day where he and I sang hymns together. Tears were flowing from both of us. May you rest in the comfort of the Lord. Lowenda Hallberg RN
