Kwok Shing Yeung

July 7, 1953 – June 29, 2021

Kwok, known to his family and friends as Henry, passed from this life on June 29, 2021. He was preceded in death by his parents, Yiao Xi Yeung and Yu Qing Chen, his wife, Ai Hao “Amy” Lam, and his granddaughter, Juniper Schubert. He is survived by two children, Sophia Yeung Schubert and Andrew Yeung, a granddaughter, Rosemary Schubert, and four siblings, Li Juan Yeung, Guo Wei Yeung, Guo Liang Yeung, and Mei Juan Yeung.

Henry was born in Southern China to a family of shopkeepers, moved to Hong Kong as a teenager, and emigrated to the United States in his 20s. After working in Chinese restaurants around the country and marrying his first wife, Henry opened his own restaurant in Youngstown, Ohio. He would go on to start restaurants in Loraine and Aurora with his second wife Amy, before retiring a few years ago. He was an excellent chef with a devoted local following, and he enjoyed preparing elaborate yearly feasts for his loved ones on Lunar New Year.

Henry was known for his tireless hard work, shocking honesty, and fierce independence. He was a simple man, kept young-at-heart by a never-ending list of dreams for the future. In his final months, he continued to devise plans to open businesses with his son and travel back to Hong Kong with his daughter. He doted on his granddaughter and relied on her silly video chats to help him endure chemotherapy. In Henry’s mind, he was always right and never late. To everyone else, he was a relentless jokester, a stubborn pain in the ass, a tardy date, a fair boss, and a great friend. He died peacefully at home with his family following a year-long battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

That was a lovely devotion to your dad....I always wanted to meet him so bad, but it just never worked out to do so. Reading that story about his life made me feel a little closer to him, and for that I am grateful. May his soul Rest In Peace. Much love, David Nader
