Surrounded by his loving family, Edwin Stewart Myers, 79, of Glen Dale, West Virginia gained his well-deserved wings and entered heaven, passing away peacefully on January 1, 2024.

Ed was Born on January 19, 1944, at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, West Virginia to the late Edwin W. and Alice B. (Stewart) Myers.

He is survived in death by his longtime love of 27 years, Karen Grisell and is the loving father of three daughters, Lisa (Jim) Rowe, Kirsten Myers and Joy (Mike) Mack.

He is the brother of Christine Harris, Janet Hamstead and Jay (Francie) Myers and the proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren, Kial Downs, Stephen Mortakes, Brennah (Jon) Sturgill, Casey Mortakes, Jessica Mack, Jennifer Mack and Colt Mack and 3 great grandchildren, Derek Mortakes, Jaydon Sturgill and Lena Sturgill.

He accumulated 100 college credits toward a bachelor’s degree through Wheeling Jesuit College before enlisting into the U.S. Armed Forces.

He had a diversity of careers throughout his life that ranged from serving in the United States Army from 1966-1969, was a Staff Sergeant stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana and served one tour of duty in the Vietnam War. He received several awards during his time spent in the U.S. Army, they include a Combat Infantryman’s Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal and Drill Sargent Badge.

He is a graduate of the West Virginia State Police Academy – Municipal Police Officer Course and served as a police officer for the City of Moundsville in the early to mid-1970’s and having moved to Southern California for a short time, he worked at the Herald Examiner Newspaper in Los Angeles in advertising before returning to the Ohio Valley and taking a position as Deputy Warden at the West Virginia State Penitentiary in Moundsville in the early 1980’s. He then moved on to become a senior investigator with the Marshall County Prosecutors Office in Moundsville, West Virginia and notably worked on the Hare Krishna murder case in the mid 1980’s that brought one of the religious sects’ followers to justice with a life sentence in a West Virginia state correctional facility. In his retirement years he ventured out and accepted a position as a Tactical Officer, Echo Company at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin and became licensed by the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee to serve as a Lay Eucharistic minister in the Military Academy’s Victory Memorial Chapel from 1994-1999. Fully retiring, he returned to Glen Dale, West Virginia in 2000.

He loved nothing more than spending quality time with his family and doting on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Moundsville, West Virginia and was a proud member of the WV0949 Association of Vietnam Veterans of America, Wheeling, West Virginia chapter, serving as Chapter President at one time. He enjoyed immensely taking road trips with his beloved Karen and summer beach vacations with his children and grandchildren in Nags Head, North Carolina.

Friends and family are Welcome on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon for a celebration of life service at Trinity Episcopal Church at One Oak Avenue, Moundsville, WV 26041

His final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC as it was his longtime desire to be laid to rest alongside his Brothers in Arms.
