Ernest James Wilson, Jr., a self-proclaimed “cookertainer” at Robert Morris University and life-long resident of Hopewell, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 15th, 2022, at the age of 50 after a short and intensive illness.
Ernie is survived by his significant other Kelly Corcoran; daughter Fayte Wilson; father Ernest Wilson (Kathryn Wilson); sister Cheryl White; stepsisters Patricia, Rhonda, Cyndee, Marci Russell, and Christina Keefer; grandmother Alma Wilson; several nieces and nephews; over two dozen aunts and uncles; and a multitude of cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Sandra Plemons; and grandfather James Wilson, Jr.
“Little Jim” or “Jimmy” to family and “Ernie” to friends, was born in Rochester on August 19th, 1971. He graduated Hopewell Area High School in 1989 and was a Union Carpenter for no. 922 for 7 years. With a passion for cooking he also worked many kitchen jobs and worked at RMU for 7 years. He started a relationship with his “better half” Kelly Corcoran, April 1st, 2002. On August 4th, 2003, he welcomed the birth of his daughter Fayte Wilson, which was nothing short of a miracle due to his previously existing health condition.
Ernie was often referred to as a “loveable asshole” by those who truly knew him. He was an astounding father and friend. His personality was infectious and loved making everyone laugh. He enjoyed traveling, sports – especially Pittsburgh’s teams, seeing live music, sitting on the beach and being in nature, and was a beer and food enthusiast. He also had an impressive collection of hats, concert shirts, and socks. A fantastic drummer, of over 40 years, Ernie was in the high school band and in a handful of rock bands throughout his life. As much as he loved moving about, he also enjoyed being at home, having a beer, watching “Bob’s Burgers,” and sitting with the dogs – notably his “little boy” Macaroni. Even towards the end, there were still some wonderful moments where his personality shone through. After an attempt to leave the hospital, in the hopes to calm him down a nurse had asked where he was from and he responded, “from my Mom’s vagina.” He will be most dearly missed by all who have had the privilege to know him.
As he was anything but a traditional man there will be no traditional service, but a celebration of his life. With the unexpectedness of his passing there is no time or place set for this celebration yet, but the family will keep those interested posted. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you celebrate our beloved Ernie in one of these ways:
