Mike Mizia

 9/20/72-12/15/20

Mike lived his 48 years as a free spirit living each day to the fullest.  He loved music – all types – and enjoyed composing, strumming his many guitars and connecting with other musicians who were up for impromptu jam sessions.  You may recall his years as the bass guitarist in The Ike McCoy Band among many other musical pursuits.

Mike loved everything in nature – even his relentless search for Sasquatch, who he believed left a giant footprint in his backyard!  He always kept a birdfeeder on his back deck to entertain his cats, Sophie and Nala, who were his precious companions.  He also had a large collection of bird feathers that he’d find along his travels and would post on Facebook for all to enjoy.

A true artist, Mike’s tile work was intricate and unique.  And he took pride in his craft as many will attest.  He also loved color and texture and displayed his beautiful collection of hand-designed quilts throughout his house.

Mike could start a conversation with just about anyone and did so easily because of his non-judgmental personality.  Mike’s legacy he leaves us all is to see value in every person we encounter and to learn to do the same.

Our dear Mike is free at last!  Give a kiss to your Dad for us!

Mike is survived by his mother, Sue Mizia, his brother, Chris Mizia, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

I lieu of flowers, etc, please donate to your local animal shelter in honor of Mike.

Chris and family, I'm so sorry to hear about Mike's death. I have fond memories of him, mostly teasing me and calling me Susie at my sister's prompting. I hope you are able to find some peace in your memories. Hugs!

My sincerest condolences to Mike's family. I only knew Mike for a brief moment in the nineties while he was in The Ike McCoy Band, but always enjoyed his company. He had a great spirit about him & was kind to everyone he met. I can still picture his big smile and infectious laugh. Very sad to hear the news.

What a kind soul. He did some beautiful work restoring and building a reclaimed marble fireplace in our home. So generous with time, his skills and his friendship. He will be missed. In our thoughts and prayers, Mark Bender
