Dr. Norbert Kanczak, age 81, of McMurray, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, January 5, 2013. He is the beloved husband of 54 years, of Martha Kanczak; loving father of Eileen (Mark) Presnell, Robert Kanczak, Michael (Karri) Kanczak, and Alison (Robert) Cocco; and adored grandfather of Caitlin and Philip Presnell, Andrew Kanczak, and Emily, Melanie, Claire, and Adriana Cocco.

Dr. Kanczak graduated from Canisius High School and the University of Buffalo. He received his PhD in Anatomy from the University of Buffalo School of Medicine in 1964. He did a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Ohio State University School of Medicine. He began his teaching career at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Mass., before moving to Pittsburgh, where he was an Associate Professor of Anatomy at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. He taught there from 1970-1993, until his retirement. He was admired by his students, receiving the honor of “Teacher of the Year” on several occasions.  In his community, he served on the Peters Township Planning Commission and the Peters Township Sanitary Authority in the 1970’s.

Dr. Kanczak enjoyed model trains, train travel, photography and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The second love of his life and faithful companion of thirteen years was his retirement dog, Amber. He took her to obedience school and dog shows. She hated that, so she retired and was a champion only in our hearts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 317 West Pike St., Canonsburg, PA 15317, on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 9:30AM, followed by inurnment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Kanczak’s name to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church to the address listed above. Arrangements entrusted to Cremation & Funeral Care by Danielle Andy Belusko, 3287 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA 15317, (724) 260-5546. It is a such a difficult time in your life when you say goodbye to a parent who has raised you, loved you, and taken care of you for many years. It closes a chapter in your life and many times we are just not prepared for it to end. We are thinking of you and your family in this time of sorrow. Try to think about the wonderful moments that you shared with your dad while he was alive ... that should bring a smile to your face.
