Patricia Mushrush, 70, lost a completely unfair fight with pancreatic
cancer on January 19, 2017.

Patti, sometimes known as “Grammie” or “Bam Bam,” was magic. Irreverent.
Brilliant. Fierce. Scary. Loving. Silly.

She never hesitated to do the right thing. Even when it was the hardest
thing to do.

Born to Caesar and Margaret Grossi on July 7, 1946. From her father she got
brilliance, kindness and stubbornness. Her mother gifted her with tenacity,
a love of gardening and the kind of the charm that could get you into…
and out of… trouble.

Born and raised in Burgettstown, PA, Patti was the older sister to David
and Claudia.  As a child, Patti learned to fight for the underdog and
challenge stereotypes; she also began a life-long love affair with books,
music, and teaching.

Teaching is what led her to Clarion Teacher’s College where she met her
honey, William Mushrush. They married on February 17, 1967. Along with
Bill’s three children from a earlier marriage, they went on to have an
additional three children.

A teacher with Canon McMillan School District for over 30 years, Patti was
a revered and celebrated English and Reading educator who brought out the
best in every student she taught.

An avid gardener, Patti’s flowers were the prettiest in the neighborhood.
Her passion for reading was so great that she would have a book in each
room of her house that she could pick up at any given moment. Every weekend
you could find Patti and Bill at the family lake house in Pymatuning.

Patti is survived by her husband, William, and their children Jennifer
Mushrush (Tony DaPoli), Greta Fahey (Shawn), Amanda Mushrush (Christopher
Lofty). She is also survived by her step-children, whom she loved dearly,
Lorrie Hager (Donny), Linda Hindeliter (Jim Jr.), and Bill Mushrush. Her
brother David Grossi (Cathy) and her sister Claudia Moskal (David). Her
grandchildren Brady Buzard, Nicholas Hager, Samantha Larson (Gregory),
Hannah Hager, Gregory Towers, Connor Towers, Shawn Fahey Jr., Ethan Fahey,
and Ellis Lofty. And, her great grandson, Paxton Larson.

Friends and family are welcome to gather Monday, January 23, 2017 anytime between 10 am and 12 pm at
Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, 15317.

In lieu of flowers, Patti asked that you be cheerful; and put books in the
hands of children.

Patti was a super person. In high school I used to tease her because she reminded me of Carol Burnett with her infectious laugh. On Wednesday mornings we would ask each other if we watched the Carol Burnett show from the previous night and if so we would laugh together at its antics. She will be missed.

As one of Patti's former students I honestly can say that she influenced my life in so many ways. I really did struggle with reading in elementary school, she worked so much with me and never gave up on me. She truly was amazing. Rest Easy Ms. Mushrush

Our sympathies to Patti's family. She was a clever, kind and friendly lady who always had a complimentary word for her friends. Very sorry for your loss.

I had the honor of being a former student of Mrs. Mushrush at Muse Elementary school. I'm now a freshman in high school and to this day, I've only met two teachers who I have loved as much as I loved Mrs Mushrush. No matter who the student was, she always would help them with any problem they had, even if it was not school related. Her smile would light up the school, and her positive attitude made everyone around her a better person. Rest in peace.
