William (Bill) Robert Ackerman died February 17, 2021 with his family by his side.  He was born on June 27, 1948 in Greenfield, PA and spent the last 40 years in Penn Hills, PA.  He is the son of the late William Henry Ackerman & Pauline (Druga) Ackerman.  He was preceded in death by his sister Kathy (Ackerman) Klaus.

He was the Loving Father of Melissa J. (Ackerman) Stein and William P. Ackerman and Father-in-law to Joshua R. Stein & Jessica Ackerman.  He was a devoted grandfather of 4 grandchildren: Jackson Stein, Elle Stein, Elijah Stein & Beckham Ackerman.

Bill was an accomplished contractor for over 40 years.  He loved his craft and was incredibly proud of his trade. He used his skills to make many positive contributions to the lives of others and his local community.  He was a veteran of the US Army and served multiple terms as the Commander of the American Legion Post #980 in Plum Boro, PA.

He was a charismatic leader, always had a great story to tell, and he had an incredible sense of humor. Bill was a teacher and enjoyed showing or teaching his friends and family how to do things. If you knew him, you knew that he was a generous man, always giving to others and putting their needs before his own. His values were resolute, and he always believed in doing the right thing and keeping his word.

His proudest achievements in life were his children and grandchildren.  He loved his family fiercely and devoted most of his free time to being with them. He loved fishing, being outdoors and visiting his camp.  You could always find Bill on his boat, hoping to snag a fish early in the morning. He also loved cooking, enjoying good food, and making new recipes with his children.

A small service for immediate family will be held on Sunday February 21st, 2021. Please view and sign the family’s online guestbook at www.PittsburghCremation.com. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the American Heart Association or Veterans Place – Washington Boulevard https://www.veteransplaceusa.org/donate/.  Please mail correspondence to 116 N. Dear Melissa, Josh, Bill, and Jess, We are so saddened by your loss of your Dad. We loved getting to know him over the years! The joy on his face when he was with you all was so incredible! In Judaism, we say “May his memory be a blessing.” We are sure that all the wonderful memories you have of him will be blessings to you, bring you comfort, make you smile and laugh, and give you loving stories to tell each other and his grandkids. He will certainly live on in all of our hearts. Love, Bonnie and Donald
