Gloria Madalene (Allison) Higgins

Gloria Madalene (Allison) Higgins, 96 years old, passed away on December 24, 2022, at the age of 96 at Evergreen Personal Care Home in Washington, PA.  Gloria was born on August 10, 1926, in Nanty Glo, PA, and was the daughter of the late Milton C. Allison and the late Madeline Allison McCrohan.  She spent her girlhood in Girard, Ohio.

She was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Edward I. Higgins of Girard, Ohio, and the loving mother of Linda Higgins Hewitt (James) of Holly Springs, North Carolina.  She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Christopher Hewitt (Philadelphia, PA) and Caroline Hewitt (Apex, North Carolina), as well as four great-grandchildren. Gloria and Edward lived in Youngstown, Ohio, Champion Heights, Ohio, Ravenna, Ohio, Lansing, Illinois, Boardman, Ohio, and Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

Gloria was a talented homemaker and excellent cook and baker. She worked as a secretary for the US Steel Corporation in the 1960s. She was creative and enjoyed jewelry making, photography, drawing and ceramics. She loved being in nature and traveled with Edward to many national parks.

Gloria was intensely curious about the world around her, taking an interest in current events and scientific discoveries.  She had a special gift for interacting with children. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a quiet strength. Everyone she ever met was touched by her unwavering kindness.

A service is set to be held on January 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Rd, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
