Patrick A. Lutz, age 89, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. Born on December 30, 1928 in Kelayres, PA, he was the cherished son of Patrick and Jenny Lutz. Beloved husband of 57 years to Elizabeth Lutz (nee Stofan). Adored father of Gina (Bob) Eckert of Cranberry Twp., PA and Michael Lutz (Stasha Boyd) of Winter Garden, FL, and beloved grandfather of Kelsey and Lindsey Eckert.  Dear brother of John (Jackie) Lutz (deceased 2008), Mary Jane Barletta, Antoinette Botch and William Lutz.
He was a proud veteran and served in WWII and the Korean War. After graduating from Penn State, Patrick pursued a career in journalism which eventually led him to a 28-year career at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He started there as a reporter/photographer and later became a copy editor.  His hobbies included golf, poker, cooking, and gardening. He was also a voracious reader.
He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His caring, sage advice and glorious sense of humor (which he shared with everyone he met!) will be dearly missed.
Per Patrick’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. In memory of Patrick, the family suggests making donations to First Book at www.firstbook.org or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.

Pat was my mentor when I first joined the Post-Gazette in September 1978. I was fresh off the boat (plane, actually) and without his understanding and kindness I might not have made it as a stranger in a strange land. He was a wonderful man and a good journalist and I will forever be in his debt for the help he gave me. God bless him and keep him.
