Theodore H. Frantz

Theodore Frantz passed away at age 87 on January 23, 2021 after brief complications from a stroke.  Originally from Hopwood, PA and a resident of both Mt. Lebanon Township, PA and Deep Creek Lake, MD. Theodore “Ted” and his wife Barbara spent many years together working and raising children before retiring to Deep Creek Lake in 2004, where they had first met at a lakeside pub in 1963. They were married on January 30th, 1965 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Mt. Lebanon. Ted was preceded in death by Barbara in 2018.  Ted is survived by his daughter Elisabeth, son James and daughter Leslie DeGrendel (Alex) and two grandchildren, Lindsey and Derek. Ted was an active and vibrant part of his community, church and family and was involved in many organizations. Ted served his country during his time with the U.S. Army. He spent his life devoted to Christ and worshiped at both St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (Mt. Lebanon) and St. John’s Episcopal Church (Deep Creek Lake).  Ted’s faith was displayed by his years of offering thousands of Jerusalem wood crosses to everyone he met. Ted was an avid boater, water skier, snow skier, scuba diver, grass cutter, waste recycler and a horrible but devoted golfer.  He was not known for sense of fashion.  He introduced his children to those same activities and did a great job teaching skiing to generations of kids.  Ted was a graduate of West Virginia University where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering – a starting point to his career in construction.  Ted was a very devoted fan of the WVU Mountaineers football team – those who knew him best were often reminded of this connection. In 1977 Ted and Barbara together founded TEDCO Construction Corporation and the firm continues to this day. During his career Ted was dedicated to the advancement of several community and business organizations such as Fellowship of Christian Companies International, Christian Business Owners, Small Manufacturers Council (past president), Pennsylvania Builders Exchange (past president), The Master Builders Association of W. Pennsylvania and the Andrew Carnegie Free Library.  After his retirement Ted served his community with many years of service with Nearly New and Habitat for Humanity. At this time, the family has planned for future memorial services to take place during the summer season. Ted requested memorial contributions to the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall (carnegiecarnegie.org). Private arrangements entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, Robinson Township.
