Robert Morrell Hagins, age 76 of Pittsburgh, PA., passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2021. Born on August 3, 1944, he was the son of  the late Marian Culliton and Cpt. Calvin Hagins (SAC). Loving companion to Barbara Ullrich. Cherished father to Lisa (Jack) Irwin, Robert (Kristi) Hagins, and Tracy (Walt) Kasievich.  Adoring Grandfather to Colton and Ashley Irwin, and Kylie and Kailyn Kasievich. Loving brother to Anita (Thomas) Buerkle, Mary Kathleen (Ben) Coglitore, and Charles (Robin) Hagins. Robert was also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward (surviving Janet) Hagins.

He was a graduate of Johnstown Catholic High School/Bishop McCort HS (1962), University of Pittsburgh, B.S. in Chemistry (1966), earning a Masters Degree in Forensic Chemistry (1972). He was a founding member of Delta Sigma Chi Fraternity and a member of the Knights of Equity.

He was employed with Mobay Industries as a Polymer Chemist, Allegheny County Crime Lab as a Forensic Chemist, and partner/owner of Goldenseal Herbs and Vitamins.

Robert will be remembered by friends and family as a lifelong student of many disciplines, and pursued scientific knowledge with veracity.

His primary passion was natural medicine and alternative healing. He would graciously share his knowledge with anyone in need.  He was delighted by the chemistry and physics of pyrotechnics and had uncommon expertise in this field.

He was considered an elite photographer by those who knew him.  His childlike fascination with mechanical toys was remarkable especially those that relied on physical properties, notably spinning tops!  He enjoyed the outdoors and the camaraderie shared with family and friends while hunting and camping.  He enjoyed entertaining at gatherings as an amateur magician. He was well known for being a connoisseur of potent potables and fine canned legumes.  He smiled with his eyes like a true Irishman would, and his laugh and smile were infectious.  Affectionately known by his grandchildren as, “Grandpap Santa”, due to his jolly nature and white beard. He will be missed by all that loved and knew him.

At the family’s request, all services will be held privately. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care, 3287 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, (724) 260-5546.

I will forever remember all the Easter Egg hunts, magic shows and nature walks with Mr. Hagins. He helped make my childhood memorable. It was always so cool to go to Tracy’s house and see and play with baby bunnies (one of Mr. Hagins hobbies). I am so truly sorry for your families loss. I will keep my wonderful memories of the times I have shared both growing up, and in my adulthood with the entire Hagins family. Mr. Hagins made it all magical. Bethany Bonidie and family
