Gregory Wood, age 65, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on April 22, 2022. He was born May 18, 1956, in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from R.L. Paschal High School and then joined the Army to serve his country.  Shortly after his service, he moved to Houston, Pennsylvania where he resided for many years with his wife and children before permanently relocating to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

A sensitive, eclectic, and creative free spirit, Greg embraced the peace of nature and animals.  He was an environmental activist who was involved in many different non-profit volunteer organizations.  An adventurer who loved to travel, Greg’s friends and family always referred to him as a ‘rolling stone’ who truly danced to the beat of his own drum.

A true virtuoso and artist, Greg was deeply connected to music and possessed the outstanding talent and ability to play any instrument.  His favorite instruments were guitar and harmonica.  Shortly before he passed, he began playing the saxophone as well.  Not only was Greg a talented musician, but he was a published poet who had special intensity and expression of deep feelings through his work.

Other hobbies of Greg’s included cooking (especially barbeque), fishing, live music, a (great) cup of coffee, drawing, painting, and hand crafting ceramic art.

Greg is survived by his children, Gregory Wood Jr. (Shenna Wood) of Houston, PA, and daughter, Sarah Wood (Jerry Hilderbrand) of Canonsburg, PA.  He is also survived by his sister, Suzanne Castellon, niece, Ashley Thompson both of Fort Worth, Texas, as well as many other friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Judith and Kenneth Wood of Fort Worth Texas as well as his brother, Brad Wood of Fort Worth, Texas and sister Melissa Lea Wood of Fort Worth, Texas.

His family will not be holding a public service but ask all that we all continuously celebrate Greg’s life by living ours to the fullest and always perform random acts of kindness.  Greg’s children ask in lieu of flowers that you donate to the Light Of Life Mission in Pittsburgh, PA or Soldier On, a private nonprofit organization committed to ending veteran homelessness.
