Our precious mother Betsy (Elizabeth) DiVirgilio, age 100, formerly of Perryopolis, passed peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at The Waters of McMurray in McMurray, Pa.

Betsy was born January 9, 1923 to the late Antonio and Maria Borla Pirlo in Perryopolis, Pa.

She was a loving and supportive wife to Henry for 66 years enabling him to have a prosperous and successful career in education and coaching.

Fully devoted to her family, Betsy was always willing to listen and provide unconditional support and love.

Betsy was known as the cookie lady and enjoyed baking and cooking family dinners. Her happiest times were when her family gathered for Sunday meals and Holiday celebrations.

She was a gifted craftsperson and enjoyed activities such as needlepoint, crochet, ceramics, sewing, and felt crafting. Her hand/eye coordination was exceptional for a centurion.

Betsy recently received the Resident of the Year award at The Waters of McMurray, a tribute to her gentle spirit and kind heart. Everyone that knew her loved her smile and agreeable personality.

Betsy was preceded in death by her husband Henry, sisters Celia, Mary, Hazel, Corrine, and brother James.

Left to cherish her memories are her four daughters: Diane Levkulich (Emil), Michele Buttermore (Curt), Netty DiVirgilio (Carol), and Laurie Galley (Mark); four grandsons: Colin Watkins (Greta), Ian Buttermore (Katelyn), Nicholas Taffoni, and Andrew Galley; great grandchildren: Liam and Violet Watkins.

Friends will be received for visitation at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church in Perryopolis at 1:00 o’clock on July 14th with a funeral mass to follow at 2:00 o’clock. Interment will be at St Johns Cemetery.

Friends wishing to honor Betsy are invited to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.

I’ll always remember Betsy as one of our amazing, kind and supportive neighborhood moms! I don’t remember ever seeing her without a smile on her face...my guess is we may have given her reason for something else! Also, it always made me happy to share a name! Sincere condolences to you all. Betsy Griglak
