Harriet Palmer was the last born of ten children to Herman V. Redman and Sarah F. Redman (born Gilliam) in Georges Township, Fayette County outside of Uniontown, PA. Upon the death of her mother in early childhood, she was sent to Pittsburgh to live with her sister.

She spoke fondly of her years as a young woman living in the Hill District during its heyday. She and her spouse, Lawrence B. Palmer, moved to Penn Hills in 1969, along with their son, Darrell E. Palmer.

Harriet retired, after 33 years from Allegheny General Hospital, as an LPN.

She was known for graciously serving others and was a faithfully active member at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Her pound cake was well-renowned and often fought over at repasses, picnics, and family reunions.

At 91 years old, she outlived all of her siblings, spouse, beloved son, best friends, and closest nieces and nephews.

Harriet is survived by her grandchildren: Darian, Darrell Jr., Darl, Tatyana, Kamaya, Kamoni, Khyree, and Elijah, her great-grandchildren, and her extended family who will all miss her dearly
